Bristol Sounds returns alongside two Elton gigs

After a week of incredible performances, comprising what’s being called a ‘landmark line-up’, the Bristol Sounds Festival came to an epic conclusion on Monday. Bouncing back from a two-year break, the event, held at the Lloyds Amphitheatre on Harbourside, brought together the likes of Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds, who kicked off the event prior to his performance at Glastonbury. Paolo Nutini followed, who’d only recently been a part of the other Gallagher’s action-packed line-up at Knebworth. Fresh off the back of their performance at the Platinum Party at the Palace, Elbow took to the stage on Friday 24th June.

Saturday saw Jungle’s dance extravaganza, having released new music back in May – twin singles Good Times and Problemz – the duo is currently working on their fourth album. Another duo (the Swedish First Aid Kit) graced the stage on Sunday, having released their first new music in three years after a hiatus since their last album, Ruins, back in 2018. The War on Drugs wrapped up the week’s performances. Grammy winners back in 2018, the band continues to gain praise for its folk and indie combination, alongside rock’n’roll undertones.

And, of course, it must be mentioned that across the city the fourth best-selling artist ever was preforming at Ashton Gate stadium: Elton John. As part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, Elton set the stadium alight twice (on Thursday and Sunday), including in what was his 11th Bristol concert… his previous outings date back to 1971, when he was at the Bristol Beacon.
