Burst Committee’s Favourite Albums of 2025

With 2025 now one month behind us, I asked our BURST committee to reflect on the music that soundtracked last year for them. From new releases to old favourites, we talk you through the albums we loved listening to. Spanning EDM, rock, R&B and more, you’re sure to find something new to listen to within our varied tastes.

WARM UP by Étienne de Crécy

Elliott - Operations Manager

Released in March, this album’s vibrant artwork caught my eye in a record shop in East London. What makes this album special is how each track is a collaboration with a different vocalist, exploring an extensive variety of genres throughout the collection. My favourite is the relaxed, smooth RNB track ‘With You’ which, as with the rest of the album, is guaranteed to put me in a good mood.

Forever Howlong by Black Country, New Road

Fiona - Head of Music

A folky and warm departure from their previous albums, Forever Howlong was on repeat for me this year. I love the female-led vocals and eclectic instrumental arrangements, especially in the tracks ‘Nancy Tries to Take the Night’ and ‘The Big Spin’. From its release in April to seeing them live in Cardiff in September and now planning to see them again next summer at Sicilian festival, Ypsigrock, it’s the album that excited me most about last year and the year to come.

It’s Complicated by Girlfriend

Ruairi - Head of News

My favourite album of the year is Its Complicated by Girlfriend. It came out at the end of April so the sun was coming out, I was going through a breakup and I just needed some chill RnB to enjoy and it really hit the spot. I absolutely love every track but ‘BWH’ and ‘Emergency’ have special places in my heart. It’s a classic summer album to me and it got me through a very rough few months, listen to it!

A Matter of Perspective - DROELOE

Dan - Tech Officer

I discovered this (29 song long!) album a few years ago when I was travelling through Europe. The euphoric music just made me feel like I was on another exploring a new distant planet whilst going through fields and mountains on the various trains and hikes that I went on. Many of the songs also have no lyrics (or few adlibs) it truly feels like it soundtracks my life. A no-skip album, telling a story and taking you on a journey throughout, transitioning through many parts of the edm genre and beyond, highly recommend a listen!!!

Crush - Floating Points

Iris - Events Liason

My favourite album is Crush by Floating Points, because it’s meaning is unique to every listen and takes on many interpretations. Floating Points is an electronic producer from the UK, and has worked with artists such as Fred Again.., Pharoah Sanders, and The London Symphony Orchestra to define his unique genre of electronic dance music inspired by classical and experimental music techniques. The album Crush takes on so many forms, unique to each listener and no song feels the same. This is the perfect album for self discovery, introspection or freeing yourself from the responsibilities of the world for 44 minutes. Listen high or sober, alone or with friends. I promise you, you won’t regret it. My fave song from the album is ‘Anasickmodular’ - you have watch the music video!

More - Pulp

Sam - Social Secretary

What makes it the album of the year for me is that in this wake of 90s band revival (Oasis tour, Blur tour etc), Pulp not only had a really great set of live shows - not a phoned in performance - but also created something new that didn't feel like a cash in. It's good to see such a classic band creating on good form and the idea of more new Pulp is exciting.
